Christians & Halloween: Excited or Wary About Ghosts, Witches and Vampires

Halloween has increased in popularity so much that it falls second to only Christmas in terms of total consumer retail spending. Total spending on costumes alone is expected to reach a record $4.1 billion, up from $3.6 billion in 2022. Halloween has pagan origins in Samhain, a Celtic pagan festival and was thought to be a night when mischievous and evil spirits roamed freely. Nowadays, at this time people think about witches, magic, ghosts and vampires.

In this connection modern day witchcraft (i.e. Wicca) and fortune telling have overrun our once Christian culture with pagan ideas. You find these influences everywhere, from TV shows, movies, music, books, games and more. What does the Bible teach about these practices? Is it okay for Christians to seek guidance from fortune tellers? Can people really get in contact with the spirit world and communicate with spirit guides or spirts of dead people? Where do demons come from and should we be afraid of them?

We invite you to review a comprehensive exploration of this topic on our website in a digital version of Fortune Tellers and the Spirit World – What does the Bible Say? The treatise is divided into 7 chapters, and we hope to soon offer it in print.
