Good morning , from Europe, dear chuck..
They GB, answers on this question in their OM book (organised book), that in the book of acts, you can read that they keeped record of how much disciples , became Christians, and that it is encouraging to see when we know if there is progression in the field, and where there is need of colporteurs in a certain part of the world..
It is indeed not bad to keep records, and to know where you can find ecclesias, or congregations, and it is indeed nice to hear, how much brothers and sisters there are by example in chicago, but to record hours, when we preach the Good news, is something, I can’t find this nowhere in the NT..

    • Chuck (Bible Student)

      Enzo,
Thank you for the reply. I do believe the Bible Students keep track of the names of the brothers and sisters is the different ecclesias. It is rather informal to my understanding. I am located closest to the Chicago ecclesia although it is a journey!
      In Christ,
      Chuck

Enzo – You are correct that Bible Students do not keep track of hours. I will share some scripture which influence my thinking.

Matt.6.5-6.nasb “When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

1 Sam.16.7.nasb “But the L ord said to Samuel, “…man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Matt.23.28.nasb “So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness”

Matt.7.21-23.nasb “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from M e , you who practice lawlessness.'”

Mal.3.16-17.nasb “Then those who feared the L ord spoke to one another, and the Lord gave attention and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and who esteem His name. “They will be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts, “on the day that I prepare My own possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.”

I am personally interested in the Lord’s record book. I am not concerned about record books of earthly organizations.

      I appreciate your comments Enzo.

Enzo, elders say hours help the circuit overseer get an understanding of who is weak or strong by whether they go in door to door. Actually if you check They haven’t sent a report on hours to Bethel each month in many years. Remember when they said time had to be in by the 5th of each month? They dropped that because those reports remain at the kingdom hall Bethel never see the totals. Just an update.

      • Bret (Bible Student)

        Jacqueline;

I was a congregation secretary less than two years ago and i still sent a report every month to the branch office. The time to get the report in went from the 5th every month to the 20th, its just the Elders would not tell the flock that so that they would still get their time turn in, in an orderly fashion. I had heard that the reason for extending it from the 5th to the 20the was because it would help to improve the reporting because so many of the friends lagged on turning their time in.
It is my thought that the whole driving force behind the turning in time is compulsory service. If you dont turn in time and your a brother you lose privileges and end being looked at as week then before long your bad association. This drives the whole preaching work not love for fellow man or Jehovah. Some are genuinely preaching but majority it is the compulsory service that motivates.

        • jacqueline

Thanks Brett for correction on that point. Got it from a Bethelite and they aren’t in congregation side.

BTW: I got my results back. Cancer free! Give greetings to your Mom. Will you be at General Convention that starts July 18-23,2015. Would love to meet you and Mom face to face. I am on cloud nine now since having 3 surgeries in 18 days. What a grand result of favor from Jehovah. He heard my plea for mercy and got me to the right city and doctors. That is all I asked of him but being the God he is he extended mercy and I WILL NOT FORGET IT, EVER. Take care.

          • Ex Jw

Jacqueline, I never knew you suspected you had cancer!!! but glad to know you don’t have it!

            • jacqueline

Oh I thought you knew. My brother died in May. Funeral was 26th, 2 of my brothers that were elders did their best to make a scene about me but I never spoke and kept it about my brother. This was great stress however to be among nothing but witnesses. I got very ill and had to return home. I was sick somewhat before leaving. My doctor immediately took test and sent me for test. June 16th test results said precancerous for sure but might actually be cancer contained in the tangled mass. They sent me to Chicago hospital for second surgery to remove this one suspicious mass July 1. It was outpatient after 12 hour observation. My son took me home but was told not to feed me for 2 days. I began an uncontrolled hemorrhage and was offer BLOOD transfusion twice. I opted to start volume expanders right away but signed for transfusion if my life was at stake. They kept me after 3 rd surgery to bring blood volume back up. Then I still had to wait for Pathology report. That came back yesterday. There were no cancer cells found. I was 1 step before cancer. So I with God’s permission dodged a ugly battle.
I wasn’t on the site as much because of the death and sickness all still not 1 month old.
Walked 1 mile today. Dr wants that. But feel super.

Thank you for your answer Peter.. I was to busy this week to give a reply..
I agree that the Bible is clear about this issue (tattoos), but I must make a confession, that I like a decent tattoo very much..
Ok, I have another important question: why are the Bible Students not registrating the hours of the service done in Witnessing to people? Can you explain it?

    • Chuck (Bible Student)

      Enzo,
      Greetings in Christ!

I have never been a JW. I am not sure why the JW’s make you record the time you spend Witnessing to others, other than to make a contest out of it or to shame. Could you explain why they do?

      Sincerely,
      Chuck

  • Enzo

Good evening from Europe: i have a question about tattoos..
What is the point of view of Bible Students, about tattoos?
Is it a personal decision, to place a tattoo, if I like it?
Or are there scriptures involved before taking such a decision?
By the JW’S tattoos are put in a negative way, by the writing Committee, (cananites , and other pagan people that made incisions in their flesh) I wonder what you are thinking about it?
    Greetings from Enzo..

    • Peter K. (admin)

      Enzo,

Here is what the Bible says:

Lev.19.28.amp “You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead nor print or tattoo any marks upon you; I am the Lord.”

Tatoos were a practice of the idol worshipping nations and Jehovah directed Israel to keep separate. So the Law had several prohibitions that related to not copying heathen practices. Since we are not under the Jewish Law covenant, some may argue that this does not apply to us. Certainly the moral principles of the Law Covenant should be followed by Christians. In this case, I would recommend following the Biblical command to Israel as I would think such restraint on our part would demonstrate a respect for Jehovah’s opinion.

However, I cannot say for certain that we should consider this a prohibition for Gentile Christians. This is my recommendation and I presume that the large majority of Bible Students would agree as I rarely see any, even among the young, wearing a tatoo.

    Peter;

I’m interested in studying deeper into Acts 15:16,17. It appears that quite possibly the Temple could be rebuilt again here on earth. Being that law will go forth out of Jerusalem, it would be no surprise.
Not sure that my understanding is clear, so if you could reference me to some study material I would appreciate it.
    Thank you Peter

    • Bret (Bible Student)

      Peter;
I understand the thought is, rather, that as God’s favor was restored to Israel in the type, his favor will also be restored to all mankind through Christ when “all the Gentiles” are invited to partake of kingdom blessings.—Acts 15:17

But I am wondering if it has a literal fullfilment as well during the peaceable kingdom?

      • Peter K. (admin)

        Brett,

Sorry for the delay in responding.

        Let me offer this suggestion

        Acts 15:16

After this— After the Bride (spiritual Israel) is complete and ready to bless all the families of the earth.

I will return— Jehovah’s favor will fully return to natural Israel

Will build again the Tabernacle— God’s kingdom established in Israel with Jerusalem as the capital

Of David— actually established in the greater David—the Christ head and body.

The ruins thereof— Jerusalem destroyed first by Babylon, then finally by Rome in AD 70.

        Acts 15:17

The residue of men— All mankind, including the Gentiles.

        Might— During the Millennial Age

Seek after the Lord— taught by Christ and the Heavenly Bridegroom and Bride. “the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea.” (Isa 11:19)

        All the Gentiles— All mankind.

Doeth all these things— Since Penticost, Jehovah has been selecting some to be joint-heirs with Jesus in the Kingdom

        • Bret (Bible Student)

          Peter;
Nicely put I might say. I was thinking of it in the sense of the capital of the world from where the direction to mankind would flow from. I do realize that sacrifices and such would never occur again. But I certainly appreciate the nicely arranged scriptures you gathered!

    • Peter K. (admin)

      Brett,

One thing I am certain of and that is that the temple / tabernacle sacrifices will never again be reinstituted.

The tabernacle types will not be brought back since they were fulfilled by the antitype, Jesus and His Bride (Matt 5:18; Rm 10:4; Heb 8:13; 10:18). The Ark of the Covenant will never be used again in worship.

Jeremiah 3:16 (NASV) “It shall be in those days when you are multiplied and increased in the land,” declares the LORD, “they will no longer say, ‘The ark of the covenant of the LORD.’ And it will not come to mind, nor will they remember it, nor will they miss it, nor will it be made again.”

Priestly services from the Old Testament Tabernacle will not be reinstated in a rebuilt temple or tabernacle since the Old Law Covenant will have fully passed away once the New Covenant has been ratified by the completion of the glorified Church. Presently, the Jew has no avenue for the remission of sins without Jesus. If the temple were rebuilt now and the Jews reinstituted the Day of Atonement Day Sacrifices (of which the Christ was a type), they would feel that their need for sin atonement was satisfied and Jesus would no longer be their only recourse.

Matthew 5:18 (Rotherham) “For, verily, I say unto you, until the heaven and the earth shall pass away, one least letter, or one point, may in nowise pass away from the law, till all be accomplished.”

According to this passage, when will heaven and earth pass? Till all be fulfilled or accomplished. When did that happen? When Jesus died on the cross. Hence as we saw in Heb 8:13 ” Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.” So since Jesus fulfilled the Law, it has been dying and slowly vanishing away. As we saw in Heb 7:12 the priesthood is “being changed.” The old Levitical Priesthood with it’s sacrifices is abolished and the new Melchizedek Priesthood is being developed. The Heavens and Earth of Heb 1:10-12 are the Jewish Heavens (Priesthood and Polity) and earth (Jewish society under the Aaronic Priesthood) which have been perishing since Jesus died on the cross.

If the Jewish Temple (as detailed in Ezekiel) is ever built in the earthly kingdom, it would be for illustrative and educational purposes.

  • Jim Sochacki

There have been many university professors throughout history who have believed Daniel 7 and Daniel 12 and talked about The Almighty, the Son of God and the Saints of the Most High ruling righteously forever. After the crucifixion and resurrection there were Jewish communities that formed all over the Earth who taught about Jesus, Daniel 7 and Daniel 12. The Polska Bracia, Isaac Newton, John Locke, William Penn Jr. and Benjamin Franklin are just a few. In the days of Charles Russell there were groups all over the Earth who believed many of things he believed and disagreed with many of the things he believed, especially his dates. There were many among the founding fathers of the USA those who believed in (1) Abraham, Isaac, Rebekah and (2) Pharaoh, Joseph (30 years old), Israel and (3) God, Moses and Israel and (4) God, Jesus, the Bride and the similarity between these 4 groups. They believed in the prayer that Jesus gave in which He said Father let the Saints become one with us as you and I are one.
In 1878 in the Valley of Achor, the first Jewish settlement in Israel since 70 A.D. came into being. Seventy years later in 1948 Israel was recognized as a nation. In 1917 JerUSAlem was liberated from the Ottoman Empire and Jews could worship there freely. Fifty years later in 1967 Israel took control of Jerusalem for the first time since the Jewish Diaspora. (Hosea 2:15) There are many Jewish “books” that are not in the Holy Bible that verify the Bible and give great historical information on pre-Israel and Israel.
Jesus said,’ I am the Way and the Truth. ‘ He is the only one you need to have as a role model to discover all the great TRUTHS and Mysteries that GOD has planned.

    • Peter K. (admin)

Jim Sochacki – It has been a long time since I last saw you. It is nice to have you on the site. It is nice to hear your comments, particularly about the recent historical developments in Israel becoming a nation.

You made a wonderful comment saying, “Jesus said,’ I am the Way and the Truth. ‘He is the only one you need to have as a role model to discover all the great TRUTHS and Mysteries that GOD has planned.”

Strangely, although there has been a proliferation of home Bible Studies around the world, I have yet to here any of these groups stand up and shout, “Guess what! We have been studying the Bible together and discovered the Ransom for ALL, Restitution of ALL things and the blessing of ALL the families of the earth!!!” Wouldn’t you agree that this is in fact the Gospel? (Galatians 3:8; Genesis 28:14).

God always worked through Prophets, Judges and other faithful ones to be leaders for his people. Did this end with the Apostles? My opinion is that God assigned seven messengers throughout history to guide his Christian people. The amazing correlation between the messages to the seven churches (from their messengers) and actual historical events in the same chronological order are nothing short of amazing to me. Click on Seven Churches link for more.

So I do think that the Lord has always selected spiritual leaders all throughout mankind’s history. I have always asked if anyone can direct me to any person or group that independently discovered the “Ransom for ALL” and did not get it either directly or indirectly from Brother Russell. I am still asking this question and waiting to meet this individual.

Regarding time prophecies, certainly history is full of frauds and as well sincere students, who made mistakes in interpreting Bible prophecy. However, that should not discourage us. Students of prophecy at Jesus first advent, made the mistake of over expectation. At the time Jesus was born, people were in expectation of the Messiah (Luke 3:15.) They expected the 70 weeks time prophecy of Daniel 9, pointed to a Messiah that would immediately defeat the Romans and set up the earthly kingdom (Luke 24:21; Acts 1:6). They were wrong to expect more than the prophecy had promised. Nevertheless, the Seventy Weeks prophecy was correct and did point Messiah. So I think we can agree that Bible time prophecy was used to validate Jesus first advent appearance. Should we conclude that the same could not be truth for the second advent of Jesus or for end time events?

Daniel 12:9-12 (RVIC) “9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel; for the words are shut up and sealed till the time of the end… 10 … none of the wicked shall understand; but they that are wise shall understand… 11 And from the time that the continual burnt-offering shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred ninety days. 12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred thirty-five days.”

So I hope we can agree that the book of Daniel tells us that we would understand time prophecy at the time of the end.

Now as to whether we are now at the time of the end and as to whether or not Russell’s time prophecies were right or wrong is open for discussion. I personally believe that the very brother who showed us the Ransom for ALL in the Bible got the time prophecies correct. Now we can disagree and still be brother in Christ. I would not judge anyone’s relationship with Jesus and the Father who had a different opinion. My experience is that when I ask people to get specific and tell me exactly what Brother Russell said that was not correct, they usually only mention one thing… 1914! I have a hard time condemning Brother Russell from over expectation regarding 1914 when the same was true of the Apostles expectations of Jesus defeating the Romans and setting up the kingdom back then. (Acts 1:6) However, when you consider what he got correct about 1914, if we are honest, we have to ask ourselves did he just get lucky at the roulette wheel or did he receive insight from the Holy Spirit?

Here is some of what Russell got right about 1914
      1) Church / State rule ended
      2) Kings lost their crowns (Divine right of kings)
      3) WWI and WWI broke up the European empires – they lost all their colonies
      4) WWI led to the 1917 Balfour Declaration setting aside Palestine (Israel) as a homeland for the Jesus.

Roulette wheel or insight from the Holy Spirit?

Do you consider Jehovah God a monster at Ge 7:11?

Very interesting.. James Tabor a North Carolina University Bible historian and archeologists is doing a seminar in which he will discuss CT Russell, The Bible Students and its entitled New Hope in a New World..,

Bret – Thanks. I shared the link with some Bible Students. I don’t see a contact area on his blog where he can receive emails however I believe he has a Facebook page. I began trying to figure out where he is coming from, however I don’t find any summaries of his views and conclusions and I am not sure how his points tie into an overall point of view. I really don’t have the time to investigate further, but it is interesting that he is talking about Russell, JWs and Bible Students. Thanks for sharing.

      • Bret

        Peter
I follow his Blog “James Tabor everything Biblical”
He has written about the Mellinial hope of the early christian church as well as the Jewish belief in the mellinium. On his blog he has a section about his books and section on his articles and there you will find his writings on the belief of the Jews and early christians that there would be a golden age for 1,000 yrs. Very interesting but gives all the evidence that it was the belief of the early church as well as Christ.

Brett, this is the outline, correct?
I would love to read the book or hear his lecture. Maybe I can find more online. Thanks this whole subject interests me.
First time I have heard of the second coming of Jehovah however. He must believe in trinity.
Found his lectures on YouTube Dr. James Tab or.

  • Ex Jw

maybe it’s just a coincidence, I just happened to notice the DAWN mag. had an article on the ten virgins and so did the watchtower, both articles seemed very similar, anyway, I like DAWNS version better

    • Jacqueline (Bible Student)

ExJw if you have time could you critique-give a summary of what you see they are saying in the March magazines on use of type or anti-type? If they are saying the temple for instance was not a type or shadow then I could see a slipping into darkness for new ones coming in.

    • Peter K. (admin)

Ex-JW – Thanks. I found the Dawn link here: http://www.dawnbible.com/2015/1504cl-1.htm

I’ll look for the JW link tomorrow. I imagine the view of the foolish virgins will be different. Bible Students generally view the “foolish virgins” as the anointed who fall short of becoming part of the bride of Christ. I wonder if the Watchtower puts the “foolish virgins” in “second death?”

      • Ex Jw

Hi Peter K. And Jaqueline, the article is from the March 2015 watchtower magazine starting on page 12, go to JW.org then click on magazines, then “study” watchtower

      • Ex Jw

And yes Peter K. they condemn the “Foolish Virgins” to Gehenna!

        • Peter K. (admin)

Ex Jw – Thanks for the Watchtower article reference. I think this is a mistake to condemn the Foolish Virgins to Second Death. There is nothing in the Matthew 25 parable that indicates that they receive eternal destruction.

It says in Matthew 25:11-12 (NKJV) “11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12 “But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’”

I believe the passage is showing that the foolish virgins are rejected as part of the Bride of Christ, that is – “I do not know you as the body members of Christ.” This harmonizes with 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 where the foolish ones who build wood, hay and stubble on their foundation in Christ are “saved so as by fire.” They are not destroyed. This is another example of where this secondary class comes into play of those who fall short of becoming a part of the glorified body of Christ. Some feel they are resurrected on earth and some of us feel heaven. It is an interesting area to explore.

          • Ex Jw

Thanks Peter K. for your response, it seems the WT is bent on condemning those living in the last days to eternal destruction, except for themselves of course!

            • Peter K. (admin)

Ex Jw – With my belief in the blessings of ALL the families of the earth, it would be hard to imagine waking up every morning and believing that Jehovah was a monster who would destroy most of the people I encounter throughout each day.

Eph 1:9,10 – “restoring the whole creation” – Weymouth
Acts 3:21 – “times of restoration of all things… spoken by … all His holy prophets” NKJV
Rom 8:19,21 – “the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God… also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God NKJV
Gen.22:18 – “In your seed ALL the nations of the earth shall be blessed ” NKJV
Luke 2:10 – “the angel said…I bring you good tidings of great joy… to ALL people.” NKJV
Heb 2:9 – “But we see Jesus … that He … might taste death for EVERYONE.” NKJV
John 12:32 – “And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw ALL peoples to Myself.” NKJV
1 Tim 2:11 – For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men (NASV)
1 John 2:2 – “He is an atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. – Weymouth
1 Tim 4:10 – God…is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe. NKJV
Rev 22:17 – “the bride say, “Come!”… Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely. NKJV [An invitation to unbelieving mankind on Paradise Earth.]

              • Ex Jw

Yes. When I was a JW I remember being depressed most of the time, never feeling I was good enough to be loved by god, the threat of being destroyed at Armageddon always hanging over my head, viewing my relatives and neighbors who weren’t JW’s, as persons who were on death row…..whew! Not that I’m a new creation I no longer have the feeling on condemnation hanging over my head!

                • Jacqueline (Bible Student)

Like you ExJW I pioneered 100 hours a month at 12 years old and off and own during school years and my life trying to save my neighbors and people in General.
Jesus had already done it!!! How wicked for the dimes and quarters for books they sacrificed us and we believed the lie.
That’s why I don’t read what they write anymore because they will say almost anything. I long for the day I can never even think about that organization and just focus on learning now about Jesus. I am thinking about closing my Facebook account ad they have JW groups all over. Some add my name but there is just so much pain and hurt on those sites and a lot of misinformation. I think I need only my family and none JW postings for a while. Giving it some thought.

  • Ex Jw

Hi, I’ve been a reader of the DAWN magazine for a couple of years now and lately I’ve been comparing some of their articles to watchtower articles,it’s kind of strange, or maybe it’s just me but it seems like either the DAWN is taking watchtower articles and editing them to suit their beliefs or it’s the other way around? Has anyone noticed this?

    • Jacqueline (Bible Student)

Hi ExJW, I haven’t read either but I do get Dawn mag in my email but haven’t gotten around to them.
I was in a discussion this weekend and in March issues of watchtower they say they will drop types and anti types. They say, I heard, that it is to difficult for the average person reading ther literature to understand.
I added it will also allow them to drop the blood scriptures as applying To witnesses today. Thus they can drop the doctrine in this country. They have been forced to in some other countries long ago. I can see them going back to types and antitypes after they drop It.
What specifically are the similarities you speak of.
New Light always came from Studies in the Scriptures in decades past but since only a few had them the average witness wasn’t aware.

Ex-JW – It is hard to imagine that either would copy the other. I suggest that you contact the Dawn on their website and ask them the same question. It would help if you provided at least one example with a link to the Dawn article and and a link to the JW Watchtower article. Since the Dawn articles are intended for the public they are more simple and not so deep for the anointed / spirit begotten.
