Shame

Shame is such a weird emotion. If I’m alone and make a mistake, I might feel aggravated with myself. If the mistake is a sin, I will feel guilty. But if I make the same mistake when I am with others, I will feel embarrassment and shame. The feeling of shame results as a response to the way you believe others are judging you. If you feel loved and supported, you might feel embarrassed but not ashamed.

Hi Greg, Thank-you for your kind words. So glad the article on shame at “Cup of Cold Water” was a blessing to you. I wrote those articles in hopes of offering comfort and encouragement to any brethren who might be struggling. And certainly, we all struggle! Shame can be debilitating but I recognize how much Jesus was shamed when he was spit at and crucified as a blasphemer. Spit is so disgusting. And then to be mocked as King of the Jews. Humiliating…Yet He said not a word.

I have been shamed as an adult Christian, but I believe if I continue to do the next right thing, no matter how others sneer at me, the Lord will be glorified. Everything we do and say is to glorify our Father and His Son.

It’s a pleasure to speak with you, Sister Suzanne. It’s an even greater pleasure to find myself in the company of so many caring, compassionate, and considerate friends like you and Jacqueline and the rest of the Bible Students.

Hearing you say you “wrote those articles in hopes of offering comfort and encouragement to any brethren who might be struggling” stimulates me to want to report that your hopes were not in vain. They succeeded in encouraging, comforting and even sustaining me at a time when life was very dark for me.

The words “Thank you” just don’t capture the vibrancy of my appreciation.
      Warmly, sincerely, and gratefully,
      -greg

So, Greg, what are you studying or what’s happening with you? Would you like to read any articles on different topics? I would be happy to write one. Perhaps others would be blessed as well.

Currently, I am an editor for the apps Bible FAQ and Christian Resources, both created by Ion Bivol. These apps encourage people to submit questions on the Bible or on how to apply Bible principles to their lives. Because these platforms are read on small screens, like cell phones, the answers are shorter but are definitely supported by scriptures. Perhaps you might enjoy looking through some of those questions and answers.

Anyway, I’m glad to hear you are doing well. Lord Bless, Sr. Suzanne

          Dear Sr. Suzanne,

I’d very much like to respond to your question and offer, “what are you studying or what’s happening with you? Would you like to read any articles on different topics? I would be happy to write one. Perhaps others would be blessed as well.”

There is something I’ve been studying that I’d like to share. Since it’s very deeply personal, and since it’s rather complex in nature, I’d love to collaborate with someone like yourself in this endeavour. I’m wondering if perhaps we could speak privately about it before you decide?

Because I don’t need more spam email, I’m reluctant to openly post my email address here, but I’ll be happy to find some other way to provide it to you, should you wish it. Perhaps Jacqueline would be willing to give it to you? Or I could obfuscate it here, I suppose.

          Warmest Thanks,
          greg

Greg I will tell Suzzanne to come on and answer you. I will contact her tomorrow.

    Warm greetings to everyone.

Whatever happened to Sister Suzanne? I’d so love to have been able to express my deep and sincere gratitude to her for her labour of love. I really miss her “Cup of Cold Water” website. I am still very appreciative of the information I found on the particular page linked above even though the link has been long dead. I’m so glad I archived a copy of it for my own personal reference back when I was working through my own abusive-childhood related issues.

For anyone interested, a copy of the original page can now be viewed here:

During my research over the years I learned a lot about shame and the potentially imprisoning effects of it. I learned how to liberate myself NOT from shame itself, but from the impact and toxic effects of shame. If anyone wants, I’d be happy to listen and also to share some of my discoveries.
