STUDY TOPIC
Our study topic will be a topical study of the Bible from Brother Russell’s famous book called “THE ATONEMENT BETWEEN GOD AND MAN” It is Volume 5 of Studies in the Scriptures.
STUDY SCHEDULE:
Night: Wednesday
Time: 8:00 pm Eastern, 7:00 pm Central, 5:00 pm West Coast
See the main website page and find the most recent study announcement for the chapter we are on. These announcement are brought forward to the front of the home page on Wednesday morning so it is easy to find for those looking for the study questions.
CHARACTER OF THE STUDY
The study will in some ways be similar to a college class room in that we plan on covering the material in the chapter. So you will benefit by reading in advance and preparing. You will find our teachings just like what they were in the early days of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, before the year 1917. Bible Students do not believe and forcing our views on others and you are welcome to have a difference of opinion. However, the study is not intended to be a free for all. We intend on keeping on the topic for the first hour. Off topic questions and thoughts (or differences of opinion that will take time to discuss) will be reserved for after the first hour. Our goal will be to cover a chapter a week, however realistically if more time is needed we allow more time the following week.
KEEPING ORDER IN THE STUDY
In order to keep order in the study, if you have a question or comment you can type “Q” for Question or “C” for Comment. If you are on the phone, say the words “Question” or “Comment.” The study leader will use his discretion in calling on each of you in an orderly fashion, but only as time permits. In an hour it may not be possible for everyone to say all that they wanted to say. However, we will do our best to encourage participation from as many who desire it.

Hi Ken. It was the fact Br. Russell couldn’t have known that he was talking about what Rutherford’s organization would become. He mentioned that the wedding garment had allowed ones into the wedding but there was those that had takened it off and would lose out on being in heaven by being thrown out of the feast.. They once knew Christ but later disowned his place and his ability to save mankind. They say he can’t save anyone not a Jehovah witness at Armageddon and his blood can’t cover but a small segment of fallen men. Thus they would did own him as Saviour.
Anyone know of any series/miniseries of articles in the Reprints? For example the Character Development Berean Lesson Series was created from the reprint articles. I found a small series: “Lessons for Spiritual Israelites”.
Henry just called to say He can’t believe tonight’s lesson.
Hi Jacqueline, what was it about the study that Henry couldn’t believe?
Is there a study tonight?
Yes
Yes 302-202-1110 code is 991337. 7pm Central Standard Time. 8pm EST/
Great! What will we be considering? I have not found the study schedule, perhaps I am looking in all the wrong places.
Br. Peter will post in a moment, hopefully. https://www.friendsofjehovahswitnesses.com/studies/ We have not progressed to far from this one on March 30th,2016. LOL
Am I able to join via skype, calling: BibleStudentFriends?
I see you are on, sorry I didn’t see this earlier.
I sincerely miss you, Peter, Jacqueline, Chris literally desperate for in person fellowship with you again. All that is inclined, please pray to our father, Jehovah, in my behalf that I may attend one of the upcoming conventions in the near future to meet some of you fine brethren. (James 5:16b)
In Him, Cazenovi
Hey it’s Chris, I won’t be able to attend this years convention. But I miss you dear brother. 😀
God willing, next year!
So which one will you be attending Cazenovi? I was going to try and go to a few I haven’t been to. Just let us know, Chris and I get around a bit. Also Br. Len is close to you. I know how it could get to not be facetime with others. I am fortunate there are 2 classes within 15 minutes of me and the huge Chicago class 1 hr away. Plus other classes close when I visit my grandchildren so I am blessed. Our little Wednesday class has totally bonded and we all look forward to Wednesday night so we can talk to each other. We will stay on afterward and talk sometimes for an hour. But let us know which convention you will attend.
I am hoping to attend next year’s general convention.
Hello, I would like to reach out to any serious students of the bible who are fluent Greek speakers or who have extensive knowledge and understanding of Koine Greek.
I am undertaking a Theocratic Greek Research Project and need assistance.
Please contact me on Skype using my email: cazenovi@gmail.com, or just email me.
Spread the word please, it is greatly appreciated!
In Him,
Cazenovi
Cazenovi – I believe that everyone is bias, including myself. We all have our opinions. Hopefully, my awareness of my bias, helps me to be objective and the same with the rest of us. Communicating with a Koine Greek expert is a great idea, but it will not eliminate the chance their bias and subjectivity will impact their conclusions and teachings.
There are many writings of expert scholars freely available on the Internet. In controversial areas, by comparing the basis and reasons for each side drawing their consclusions, you can honestly sort through any bias and attempt to arrive at the most honest conclusion. I will share some of my methods. However, I do not know Greek myself.
I use programs like the free online Bible for translations and to do a Greek or Hebrew world search. By looking up every time a Greek (or Hebrew) word is used in the Bible, you can get a sense for how the Bible is defining the word as opposed to how a scholar is putting his spin on the meaning: http://onlinebible.net/downloads
Some of these commentaries can help with Greek and Hebrew: Greek Testament Critical Exegetical Commentary http://www.studylight.org/commentaries/hac/ and Vincent’s Word Studies http://www.studylight.org/commentaries/vnt/ and more to sort through at these links
The Greek and Hebrew Interlinear with English translation and Strong’s number is of great help: http://biblehub.com/interlinear/ Also here: http://www.studylight.org/desk/interlinear.cgi
Lot’s of translations and tools to be found here: http://biblehub.com/ and here: https://www.blueletterbible.org/search.cfm
The Online Companion Bible has some helpful comments on Greek and Hebrew in many Bible verses: http://www.companionbiblecondensed.com/
How to choose a Bible Translation: https://www.friendsofjehovahswitnesses.com/2012/02/09/how-to-choose-a-bible-translation/
The RVIC translation and comments are great: http://herald-magazine.com/christian-literature/online-bible/
However, nothing helps me more than the insight and explaining of Brother Russell on Bible verses like the Expanded Biblical Comments: http://www.htdbv8.com/indexec.html
Hope this helps.
Cazenovi,
I sent you an invite on Skype. I look forward to your response.
Jeff
